We were at Masada in Israel, waiting for the cable car to take us to the mountain fortress where the Jews held out for so long against the Romans, when a hiker was taken ill and had to be rescued. I managed, with the aid of a good zoom lens, to get some good shots of the brave paramedic.

On our last day in Jerusalem while walking the ramparts we looked down on a school yard where boys were out at recess. They looked up and noticed us--and me with my camera, and they wanted me to photograph them.

They waved and posed, so free and full of the joy of life!
