I just love the furrowed brow, the protruding lip and look of concentration. It was all about the Christmas cookies he was decorating. Serious business you know!

Posted by Picasa The eyes are the windows of the soul they say, but sometimes windows are the soul. This house stands facing the setting sun, some windows boarded up, reflecting back the gold, hiding what lies within.

The Hat Shop

These photos are already in the archives of this blog, but I love them so much that I bring them out again to share. And I have cropped and edited them slightly.
The hat shop belongs to the family of my uncle by marriage, Joop Heniger. I was in Rotterdam in the summer of 2006 for 4 precious days, and my cousin took me to visit some special places, including "old Rotterdam." It is amazing that so much survived the bombing of the Second World War, this shop among them. The atmosphere was out of another era and very Art Nouveau-ish.

Frost Fairies

...They looked like the participants of some strange dance, some brave souls having ventured to the center of the floor; more , hovering on the peripheries , longing to be asked but not having enough courage themselves to simply join their friends in middle and be free. But the majority of the feather-flowers remained clinging to the side of the Great Dance Floor, like wall-flowers who knew that not only is there safety in numbers but anonymity in the crowd of hundreds (maybe thousands) of themselves, all embracing the frozen security the walls afforded them.
