Tree Symphony

The afternoon light caught the tree tops in front of the stand of maples on the hill. I loved the shifting shadows and the light that illuminated different parts of the landscape each moment.

Windows

In Holland, where I spent many happy childhood holidays, people don't draw the curtains at night, and I used to love looking into the cozy, "gezellig" homes, softly lamp-lit, with abundant plants. It was so different there to England where I grew up. There, it was true, "An Englishman's home is his castle," but a private castle!

Now, I love still looking into lamp-lit windows, even our own. This is our front hallway, looking in from the sun porch. It says "home."

Brief Glimpse of Earth

We are having a brief pause in winter in Ontario. The snow has been drenched in rain and blown on by the wind, so that we have a rare glimpse of colour and signs of new life!

Shifting Light

Posted by PicasaA strong wind and sudden warm temperatures warmed the land and our snow melted. This afternoon as clouds scudded across the sky, the light shifted each moment, playing on this row of trees in the distance across the fields.

Funny Feathered Fellow

I bought some new lamps on the weekend, and this little chap sits on the pole of one of them. As soon as I saw him I knew he had to be mine! Not every one's cup of tea perhaps, but mine. He has a saucy, wary look about him, as if he's deciding whether to stay or seek more illustrious company.

How We English Keep Fit

On our walk we clamberd over many stiles; all of them unique contraptions for keeping animals in, while allowing humans to get over.

Memories of an English Autumn

In October Brenda and I walked along a bridle trail that wound through the fields between Alvechurch and Rowney Green, in Worcestershire, England. It reminds me that green lies beneath our snow.

Sunrise--Sunset

Today dawned lovely at first light.
Then, at about 5.30, as I was engrossed in work in my office, Mary Anne ran downstairs and said,
"Belinda, look out of the window! The sun was going down in a blaze of raspberry red.
